We begin on downtown’s narrow streets past the State Capitol, Russian Orthodox
Church, and Governor’s mansion and on to view the Mendenhall Glacier at a
distance from Brotherhood Bridge where the fireweed and Alaska cotton frame the
mighty Mendenhall and provide ample photo opportunities. We continue North
through the once thriving Auke Indian village site to the Shrine of St. Therese where
we explore the historic stone chapel and serene waterfront grounds. From here we
continue “out the road” to enjoy a scenic and secluded piece of Alaska history at the
Ernest Gruening State Historical Site. Take in the spectacular Chilkat mountain
range across the Lynn Canal while enjoying a light Alaskan snack and beach walk
near the former Territorial Governor’s rustic cabin. On our return to town, stop in at
either the award-winning Alaskan Brewing Company or the Macaulay salmon
hatchery for a tour and taste of Juneau you’ll truly enjoy.
